It has been foreeeever since I've updated anything, including my journal~
So, I logged into DeviantArt today for the first time in a long time and saw lots of messages from people asking me to write some more. I really am touched by that, by the way. I'm so glad you guys enjoy my work! And I apologize for not being around, but I've been so busy with school and getting ready for my doctoral program that I have hardly had time to RP (it's crazy, yo~). Still, I do hope to be able to get you guys some new material at some point, especially having seen all those notices and notes and such that I had. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and talented.
I also had people informing me that someone stole my work.
m.fanfiction.net/s/8269974/1/Specifically, "Precious Part 1" Which is one of my more popular stories and the first chapter of my major Bioshock works. I love this story, I really do. I feel like it's one of the better things I've done. I worked hard on pouring personality into the characters and verbal imagery into the world. I truly enjoyed writing that series, and I may even continue it, and the fact that someone stole that story (replacing the 'he's for Jack with 'she's so that it would be straight instead of yaoi) and posted it up as their own really hurts me. I worked on that story, and even if it is a fanfiction, it's still something I created and to which I gave depth. It is one of the features that several people have told me makes that story one of their favorites.
And this individual who stole my writing has done themselves no good. They didn't experience the joy of creating something, didn't get the experience from that writing, and - thanks to a fair number of fans of mine - have been called out as someone who just ripped off the work another writer did. For some people, it might be just a fanfiction or just a short story, but for me it is what opened me up to posting my writing for people to see, it is what encouraged me to continue writing, and it is something which I dearly care for.
Thank you to those of you who informed me that this had happened and gave the poster negative reviews. I am touched that you recognized my work and what it might mean to me. And to the person who stole it - you have earned nothing but my pity and contempt. Pity that you could not manage to make something of your own and contempt because you felt it was perfectly alright for you to steal something that someone else created.
Thank you again to those who informed me of this. I don't know if it will be taken down ever, but I am glad to know that there are people out there who truly enjoy my writing.
I am fairly active on tumblr, though not exactly posting writing for reasons mentioned above. Still, here is the link to my tumblr page in case anyone's interested or wants to spread this little rant of mine around the tumblrverse. Hope to see some of my old contacts there!
